Net Worth Report – June 2020

Note: This is a repost from an old blog of mine, remixed with the graphs, headings ordering, and stylizations I normally do, but otherwise the text is unchanged. Hope you enjoy taking a look back at where this all began! -CJ

Hello readers! Back on time this month! For those who are new, these are my monthly posts where I share all the details of my progress on my FIRE journey!

June was good for me, mostly driven by income rather than the market, which was pretty volatile over the month of June, and rightly so. I’m not sure we’ve seen the end of this considering the Coronavirus is getting much worse in many parts of the United States. We’ll see how July plays out and I hope things get better soon.

Excitingly, and relevant to these posts, I’ll be moving in just a couple days to place that cuts my rent cost from $700 to $450 or so. Should make a difference in my savings rate!

June 2020 – $59,757.86 (+$5,989.30)

So close to crossing 60k! A much better month than last because I finally had a full month of income coming in from my new job. I also finally moved back to my apartment after living with my family for a while due to the Coronavirus. Felt good to finally be back on my own! Let’s break it down by category how my increases

401k – $31,719.24 (+$576.70)

Small increase here, maybe around 2%, which is kinda crazy considering a really bad day or two for the market in June. All in all no complaints. As I always mention, all of this money, as all other investment accounts (except brokerage) are in the S&P 500.

Cash – $15,331.27 (+$5,208.75)

Much, much better here than last month. A couple paychecks, getting back some money I loaned a family member, and then paying rent and a little bit more eating out than usual got me here. Feel pretty good about this and I’m on track for the couple near term goals I’ve set.

Roth IRA – $10,968.15 (+$213.37)

Didn’t end up moving more money into my Roth IRA in June, but I will in July. I have $6,000 to contribute for 2020 and there’s six months left in the year so I plan to just divide it evenly. I would just put the whole $6,000 in at once from my cash and I wouldn’t be too scared about not having enough money in an emergency, but I feel like in the case the market bottoms out it’s better to disperse that money over a short period of time. That’s my thinking anyways.

HSA – $1,500.00 (+$0)

Another big boost here. I got a $500 contribution from my previous place of employment and then $1,000 from my new place of employment. I’m soon going to figure out where to go to invest the money and max it out and at my new job so expect more money in here soon!

Brokerage – $249.00 (-$9.80)

SPCE continues to disappoint. But I will not take this loss, holding until I break even at $500. 🙂

Hope you enjoyed this net worth report! Happy saving!
