Net Worth Report – July 2021 (Another Trip Around the Sun!)

Note: This is a repost from an old blog of mine, remixed with the graphs, headings ordering, and stylizations I normally do, but otherwise the text is unchanged. Hope you enjoy taking a look back at where this all began! -CJ

Hello readers! For those who are new, these are my monthly posts where I share all the details of my progress on my FIRE journey!

July was a lot of getting back in the swing of things. After how crazy June was, I was able to settle in a bit this month to my new place and get back to work. The beginning of the month I was in Arizona and then Vegas, and I did some (small) gambling in both places (my first time). And yeah, I may have lost some money, but it was a fun experience overall that reinforced that gambling isn’t the best way to riches! My girlfriend and I’s new place is feeling more like home and I finally bought myself a desk so I could stop working from my couch! Also, I turned 22 this month! Didn’t do anything too crazy for my birthday, but had a fun night out and some good meals throughout the day!

Markets this month were honestly nearly identical to June’s going up 2.27% (versus 2.22% last month) and another (albeit bigger this time) drop mid-month, which we also saw in May. The S&P 500 is sitting just below 4,400 right now. Who knows what the next months will bring!

July 2021 – $153,309.77 (+$8,016.30)

A good month here! I set a goal of getting to $150k by my birthday, and I made it! Markets helped this month for sure, but I felt I had less expenses this month than others, which was good! Now I’m onto the next goal of hitting $200k by the end of the year! It’s gonna be a tough one, but might as well shoot for the moon!

401k$65,062.13 (+$3,552.02)

Looking good here! I had about $2k come in from my paychecks and the rest is market movement.

Brokerage – $37,361.20 (+$3,620.58)

Better growth this month! My BB and CLOV went from $1,600 to $1,400, which was sad, but I’m still holding. The $75 I had in altcoins pretty much stayed steady. Everything else was in the S&P 500 which, of course, went up! Next month I’m going to be putting $4k in this account per month for the remainder of the year!

Roth IRA – $30,404.21 (+$705.07)

First month where I wasn’t able to contribute money for a while! Pretty good growth here considering that!

Cash – $14,836.80 (-$198.51)

Just a slight drop this time around. Per usual, I had about $4k come in from paychecks, $3k go out to brokerage (which I meant to increase to $4k, doing that for August), and then about $1k for donations. Had some birthday money come in, some expenses for food and eating out go out, and came out about even! This next month should be interesting, as my girlfriend and I are tightening out belts and not eating out to see how little we can spend. However, I’m going to have $2k in expenses for my grad school classes, so that’s gonna eat some of this anyways!

HSA – $5,645.43 (+$337.14)

Nothing out of the ordinary here! Continuing my slow march to maxing this out by the end of the year.

Hope you enjoyed this net worth report! Happy saving!
